This reminded me of how (for some reason) my son's dad had decided he didn't want his son to say "fart." I thought it was an innocent word, but whatever. I wouldn't enforce it, but didn't intervene. This ..decision by his dad backfired though.
My son (on the autistic spectrum) somewhere heard someone reference "the f-word." In his own way, he put 2 and 2 together and at a church picnic loudly proclaimed, "My dad does the f-word all the time. It's crazy how often he does the f-word." His dad turned red and tried to explain, "He means FART," but man, I truly felt, it would have made a lot less trouble to just let my son say "fart" from the beginning. :)
