With my wife being in the pool construction business, we have a plumber and electrician at hand -- usually very cheap, because they love my wife ;).

But *sometimes* things happen that are bigger than a quick fix (these guys are her contractors, so busy on actual jobs most of the year), and we have to call a professional. We've had American Home Shield for about 4 years now. In some ways, it's very worth it, in others... not so much.

But it has helped during the times when the job was bigger than her guys would want to tackle -- and has saved us *paying* for a water heater, 2 ceiling fans, a toilet, and about 1/2 of our CHA unit (it was half, because only 1/2 went out -- but with replacing that part with new, the older part would have died eventually, creating the same problem, so we footed the bill to replace the "still working" part -- don't ask me what part is which, I'm not electrically-inclined in any way) over those 4 years.

Here's hoping you headed off a Christmas problem by fixing the "sorta" problems early ;).
